Yes, I take my son Derek pretty much everywhere. Almost all of these 'Mom's of Buffalo' ideas I have been with him first hand. I get if you live in Erie County you will most likely go outdoor  staking at Canalside, which I totally get. BUT if you want a 'less crowded' option, or live in Niagara County, the outdoor rink at Academy Park in Lewiston on Center Street is perfect to take your kids!

Open weekdays from 4 p.m to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday until 10 p.m., it's just big enough for kids to enjoy not too big so they get lost. Parents can chill in the heated tent just outside the rink – they serve hot chocolate and coffee – or watch from the outside. Rentals are available for $5 - and they have skate 'guards' to help your kids and keep things under control - including keeping the ice clean!

I am sure most of you have heard of the Peach Festival they do every year the weekend after Labor Day - that is the exact spot where you can skate. Of course there are tons of shops and places to eat (Brio's is my favorite) on Center street - so make a day of it! If you want outdoor skating in Niagara County and not have to wait forever to get on the ice - Academy Park in Lewiston is your spot!
