Jennifer Suhr is the latest Western New Yorker to earn a medal in the London Games, winning the Gold in Women’s Pole Vaulting Monday night.

Suhr and Cuba’s Yarisley Silva tied for best vault of the night, soaring 15 feet 7 inches into a rainy sky at London’s Olympic Stadium.  But Suhr took the gold because she had one less failed attempt than Silva. Russia’s Yelena Isinbayeva, the pre-Games favorite in the event, finished third.

Suhr told her Facebook followers, "It's very emotional. It's something that you work so hard for, for four years...I don't think I've ever wanted anything so bad."
