Finally it's camping season! My hobby is camping. I love it, and have been camping for 34 years. When my wife and I got married we didn't have much money for a honeymoon, so we decided to rent an RV and went camping. I was hooked immediately. We started out as tent campers. Boy did we make our share of mistakes with that! Later we bought a pop-up camper, and now have a 21 foot trail-lite.  Here are my favorite parks to camp in that are nearby, so you don't have to take a loan out for gas to get there!

Gilbert Lake State Park in Laurens, NY . My all time favorite! located between Cooperstown and Oneonta, NY in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains. Beautiful, isolated and relaxing!

Four Mile Creek State Park. Located right in our back yard in Youngstown, NY. It offers spacious campsites, and stunning Lake Ontario shoreline.

Pymatuning State Park. Located in Andover, Ohio, it's just a short three hour drive. Meticulously maintained. It sits on a large inland lake and straddles the Ohio and Pennsylvania border. Offering swimming, boating, and causeway fishing!

Green Lakes State park. Head down the Thruway to Syracuse. Get there early because its a very busy park.  Featuring lakes formed by glaciers century's ago. Thus the green color!

Lakeside beach State Park. Another great park located in our backyard. I took our daughter there for her first camping trip when she was two. Head North from Albion in Orleans County and your there. Over 200 sites, all electric. Plus more great Lake Ontario shoreline.
