Niagara Falls could soon run dry again!

State leaders are considering the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation's proposal to rehabilitate or replace the bridges that connect Niagara Falls, Green Island and Goat Island. The current bridges are more than 100 years old.

If the bridges are replace, the flow of the Niagara River would be directed to the Horseshoe Falls, while the river is temporarily de-watered to expose the rocks. The rocks could be exposed for five to nine months, according to a draft design of the American Rapids, as well as the Bridal Veil and American Falls.

The bridge project is still just a proposal, and the state is asking your the public's input. You are invited to attend a public hearing on Wednesday at 5:00P.M. at the Niagara Falls Convention Center.

Niagara Falls was last de-watered back in 1969 when the Army Corps of Engineers looked at the stability of the American Falls.
