Residents Call to Remove Grand Island Bridge Tolls

Grand Island residents are calling for tolls to be removed from the  bridges to the island. Those in favor are saying the tolls are a burden to both residents and tourists that visit the region.

The Town of Grand Island Supervisor says the Tolls were "originally set in place to cover the maintenance and original cost for construction. But for decades, tolls continue to still be collected by the state thruway authority".

Last year the bridge tolls made 20 million dollars for the state. The legislation to remove the tolls is currently awaiting New York State Senate and Assembly approval in the Transportation Committees.
