REVIEW: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II
Last night I went to the midnight premier of the last of the Harry Potter movies and I have to say I have never seen so many grown men and women walking around in capes brandishing wands. When I arrived at the theater at 11:30 the line of Hogwarts enthusiasts was already out the door and the Channel 4 News van was parked outside. I took this as a promising start to the movie.
I feel like I should point out at this point that I may be only 1 out of 5 people who grew up in the 2000’s who has not read the Harry Potter series but this is not something that I like to say when I am at the movies because such an admission will only get you dirty looks from random strangers with lightening bolts on their foreheads. Any way when I walk into the theater and brazenly cut all 150 people already standing in line to get in to look for my friend with my ticket who has been at the theater since 11 to save seats I am against struck by how many people actually came out at midnight to see this movie and silently wishing I had put on my old school uniform for the evening so I wouldn’t stand out so much in my black harem pants.
The theater is buzzing with excitement and I have to say this is the first time I’ve been in a movie theater where no one talked during the movie aside from the two times during the battle for Hogwarts when the audience burst into applause and the three times my friends plastic qudditch broom fell over. This was in my non-Harry Potter expert opinion the best of the films it was full of action and witty dialogue and unlike the last book in the Twilight Saga actually had some really good battle scenes and all the lingering questions you’ve had through out the series about characters allegiances and pasts are finally answered. Ralph Fiennes really nails it as the maniacal Lord Voldemort and he actually gives you chills in his final battle against Harry. As always everyone’s favorite ginger family the Weasley’s are adorable in this movie and Mrs. Weasley finally is allowed to kick some ass.
I definitely give this installment of the Potter series four stars and recommend that both serious and dilettante fans of the series go and see it.
