Dr. Marc Edwards graduated from nearby Ripley Central High School in 1982 and now he is a professor of engineering at Virginia Tech. Many in the scientific community consider him to be a top expert in water quality for our homes. When he found out that the water in Flint Michigan was causing grave health and biological problems for the residents, he headed north.

One of Dr. Edwards classmates who he went to Ripley High with him said to yourerie.com:

"He was just that type of a person that he always wanted a challenge," said Sheila Bentley, who graduated with Edwards in 1982. "One time I remember he got a 98 on a test and he was very upset, and we were happy with 98's! It's really enlightening to know that somebody that intelligent can make that kind of impact, you know, in the world, and he came from Ripley Central School."
