Sabres Earn First Road Win In Philly
Zegmus Girgensons got a breakaway 2:29 into overtime on a perfect feed from Carlo Colaiacovo and buried a shot past Philadelphia Flyers netminder Steve Mason to give the Buffalo Sabres their first road victory of the season Tuesday night, 4-3.
It was Girgenson’s first goal since February 24th.
Sabres goaltender Chad Johnson let in a few questionable goals in regulation but more than made up for it in overtime—making two spectacular stops while the teams skated three apiece.
Buffalo took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Tyler Ennis and Jamie McGinn. Philadelphia would tie it at 8:14 of the third period before Jake McCabe’s second goal of the season put the Sabres back up, 3-2.
It appeared the Sabres would win in regulation but Brayden Schenn deflected a shot to tie the game for Philadelphiaand send it into overtime.
Buffalo outshot the Flyers, 40-33.
The Sabres are in Pittsburgh to face the Penguins on Thursday.
