Five states, including New York, are part of an experiment that will add at least 300 additional hours to the school year.

The three-year pilot program will affect almost 20,000 students in 40 schools over the next three years.

I don't think adding extra hours would negatively affect students, even young kids.  I drop my kids off at school over an hour before school starts and they participate in activites in the gym, library or they can study.  They can handle it.  If it keeps them competative in the world and makes them smarter, why not.

Some say we should spend more time improving the quality of education before the quantity.
