A second arrest has been made in connection with the prison break at the Clinton Correctional Facility.

New York State Police arrested 57-year-old Gene Palmer in connection with the escape of Richard Matt and David Sweat. Palmer is a guard at the Clinton Correctional Facility and has been accused of taking frozen hamburger meat containing hack saw blades into the cell area for inmate Richard Matt and David Sweat. The meat was brought into the facility by Joyce Mitchell, who has also been arrested in connection with the escape.

Gene Palmer was originally placed on paid administrative leave and was officially charged on Wednesday with promoting prison contraband, two counts of tampering with physical evidence and one count of official misconduct.

Palmer pleaded not guilty and was sent to the Clinton County Jail on $25,000 bail. Bail was posted at 12:30AM, and Gene Palmer will appear back in court today.
