It looks like Regis Philbin's time filling in for Hoda Kotb on TODAY last Wednesday alongside former partner Kathie Lee Gifford might have been an audition of sorts.

With rumors flying that Ann Curry is on her way out as TODAY co-host with Matt Lauer, and current fourth-hour co-host Kotb being pegged as her replacement, there's a spot to fill on NBC's morning show. And who better to take over than Kathie Lee's old partner in crime?

"Kathie Lee and Regis have a long history together, from their days of working together on their own show," a source told RadarOnline.com. "The two have remained very good friends in the years since both left the show."
