Buffalo is one of many cities that plays classical music in its subway stations. There are supposedly several reasons for the practice, but a big one is said to be that classical music reputedly calms down possibly rowdy riders [classical music isn't the only kind that works; in Australia, they play Barry Mantilow. There was a time when we'd actually have been very upset by that. That time, though, was more than a few years ago...].
