A new Erie County SPCA facility has been given the go-ahead for construction in West Seneca. The $9 million project won final site and engineering approval Thursday night from the town board.

Executive Director Barbara Carr said, "Well it means a great deal for the community. We'll be much more centrally located, we'll be able to service the community a lot better, we'll be able to develop programs that really help the community and the animals in our care are going to be a lot better cared for."

Carr, will rely on fundraising to pay for the new shelter and hopes to open the SPCA campus on Harlem Road by 2014.
