I make the best sugar cutouts. I have over 900 cookie cutters -- something for every occasion, and if I don't have one, I make a template out of cardboard and trace around it with a paring knife.

So here is my recipe.

Sugar Cutouts

1 cup of butter (softened -- only unsalted butter)
2/3 cup sugar

Cream them together, and add:

1 egg
1 tsp. pure vanilla

Mix together, and add:

2 1/2 cups sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
Mix together, and chill for two hours. Bake at 350 degrees, then ice and enjoy!

Icing

3/4 cup confectioner's sugar
1 tbsp. unsalted butter
1/4 tsp. lemon juice
1/2 tsp. vanilla (pure)
3 tbsp. milk
