Tackle Football Going Away In New York?
If you have a son (or daughter) that loves football in New York, the way the game is played may be changing. A bill has been proposed that would keep kids under 13 from tackling in New York State.
The amount of head injuries and concussions and the fear of long-term damage has been a factor in the decision to move away from youth tackle football.
According to a report from Fatherly.com:
...if passed, would stop youth football leagues and schools from allowing kids to play tackle football. Authored by New York State Assemblyman Michael Benedetto, the bill is called the John Mackey Youth Football Protection Act. It is named after a star N.F.L player who died after suffering from symptoms of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy.
