It certainly is a good time to be Max Landis. The screenwriter who made his mark with Josh Trank’s indie sci-fi hit Chronicle recently sold his Bright script to Netflix for $3 million, with David Ayer attached to direct. And now he’s in the midst of another potentially huge deal as Bradley Cooper has come aboard Landis’ spec for Deeper, a sci-fi drama that’s sparked a bidding war between major studios.

We’d heard some time ago that BBC-America had in mind to adapt Hitchhikers’ Guide to the Galaxy creator Douglas Adams’ Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency with controversial writer Max Landis, and now Dirk Gently has a first major star. Lord of the Rings and Wilfred alum Elijah Wood joins the production in a major Dirk Gently role, but not the one you’d think.

Back in 2012, some of the cast members from the 'Hobbit' films appeared in an in-flight safety video for Air New Zealand titled "An Unexpected Safety Briefing," and to coincide with the upcoming sequel 'The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies,' they've made a different kind of sequel: "The Most Epic Safety Video Ever Made." It is very epic indeed.

Whether your thing is animated penguins who sing and dance or gothic love stories involving vampires and werewolves, both of the new movies in wide release this weekend have been much hyped and hotly anticipated.
