Now that Disney has gobbled up everything that's important to you and your childhood, they're going to start doing what any corporation worth its salt would do: start squeezing every single possible dollar out of your bank account until your wallet cries uncle. The first step in their recent wave of corporate synergy was giving the 'Star Wars' comic license back to Marvel. Step two is an even bigger deal: giving Pixar a 'Star Wars' movie to make.
There's been a lot of speculation over whether J.J. Abrams and Disney could reach an agreement over the release date of 'Star Wars: Episode 7,' with Abrams recently scrapping Michael Arndt's script to rework the story and characters. But now we have official confirmation that the latest entry in the 'Star Wars' franchise will indeed be released on December 18, 2015, putting it right up against Duncan Jones' 'Warcraft.'
Much of the speculation surrounding 'Star Wars: Episode 7' has been in regards to its release date - mostly because it doesn't have an official one yet. But, when will J.J. Abrams and crew actually start production on the new 'Star Wars' film? Sounds like we have a pretty good idea now.
Though 'Star Wars: Episode 7' hasn't started casting yet, nor has Disney released much information about the upcoming sequel, that's not going to stop intrepid journalists from asking about it. Conan O'Brien interviewed Harrison Ford for his upcoming movie 'Paranoia,' and -- to get Ford to talk about it -- offered Ford a thousand dollars to tell him spoilers from 'Episode 7.'
Disney now owns the rights to Star Wars, so they didn't make a showing at Comic Con this past weekend. But the ball has started rolling for the new Star Wars movies, and there are rumors that Ryan Gosling or Zac Efron could be up for the role of Princess Leia and Han Solo's son. That's all just rumors at the moment.
Though 'Star Wars: Episode 7' may have sat out Comic-Con, now that it's a Disney product, it's possible we'll get the first big casting announcement this year at Disney's D23, which is coming in August. But news has broken that Zac Efron and Ryan Gosling are being talked about for the film, and that Gosling is up for the role of Luke Skywalker's son.
