Teen Olympians Are Making Me Re-think My Wasted Youth
Every time I see or hear of a 15-year-old winning an Olympic medal, it makes me think of what I was doing at their age. Well, in reflection, what I wasn't doing. Because at their age my big personal challenge was to try and earn Presidential fitness awards. And, guess what? I didn't even get one every year! I am telling you that flex-arm hang was a killer! I still remember my arms shaking and kids counting out the seconds. Ugh!
Now if you grew up in the 1970s you remember these badges. An old friend, Dan Guilfoil, sent me a picture of his. Yes, he got one every year.
They stopped doing these awards in the early 1980s.
Here is a list of the current teens in the 2018 Winter Olympics, as well as some of our oldest current Olympians, some actually in their 50s. Hooray!
