The workplace is a strange place.

Some people at work, you are closer to than others. You might go to lunch daily or weekly with some. Others, you might even see out of work or on the weekends.

At most workplaces, people are walking around, coming in and out. There is activity.

So for the people you work with that you aren't tight with -- or maybe you just don't have daily interaction with for work purposes, but you don't have an issue with them -- there is always that awkward hallway moment.

If you happen to bump into them to pass them in the hallway, you probably say hi to them.  No big deal. But what happens when you pass by them a second or third time? Do you say hi again? You really have nothing to say to them. Do you not say anything? Then they might think you are rude.

How many times in a day can you possibly say hi, and only hi to the same person. Awkward!
