You see lots of things at a doctor's appointment....impatient fiddling, outdated magazines, super awesome 80s-style furniture patterns....

You won't find any of those things at Southtowns Radiology, but if you're there on the day of my mammogram, you may see a 41-year-old carrying a selfie stick while wearing a hospital gown.

That would be me.

Here's my experience this year at Southtowns. You'll remember Sue from last year's appointment!

Dense breast tissue (which I have a hard time saying quickly) is fairly common...and ironically, just means I've got more fibrous or glandular tissue but not as much fat (wish I could say the same for the rest of my body!).  Simply put, dense tissue makes it more difficult for doctors to see cancer in a mammogram.

The 3D mammogram can see a little more clearly into the tissue.  And if you're like me, you may chose to then have an additional ultrasound scan, to get another view through all that dense tissue.

So, what are you waiting for?*  Schedule your mammogram today!

(*Seriously, I'd LOVE to hear the answer to that question...what ARE you waiting for?? If it's fear that's holding you back, I'd LOVE to talk to you!)
