In the ideal co-parenting relationship, both parents can communicate well and surmount their own disagreements for the good of the children.

I do not have one of these relationships.

It’s my hope that one day, my ex and I will be able to take our children trick-or-treating together. But that doesn’t look like it’s happening anytime soon. So for now, I’ll be spending Halloween alone, and next year, my ex will be.

It sucks doesn’t it?

That’s the trouble with holidays. There’s only one day, and two parents. It’s bad math. Accurate, but still bad.

And at the end of the day, I’m alright of course, because none of this is about me.Will my kids have a blast trick-or-treating? Sure they will.

I just wish I got a chance to see them is all.
