Are we stuck in Western New York having to rent a cable box from Time Warner Cable? Everyone I've asked in Buffalo says that their cable and satellite companies force them to rent the boxes needed in order to turn on the TV. The FCC thinks that should stop.

WKBW in Buffalo recently reported:

The Federal Communications Commission has voted to move forward with a proposal that would force cable companies to allow customers to buy their own set-top box, instead of renting them from the cable providers.

What do you think? Would you rather pay around $250 a year to rent the unit or buy one for around $600?

I used to pay a small fee renting the cable modem, but since I bought one outright, I'm now saving a few bucks a month.
