When I was in school, I always hated gym class. The running, the President's physical fitness test, etc. -- even playing dodgeball because I was always one of the last kids picked for teams. I did play volleyball and softball in high school, but sports weren't super important to me.

Liz from our sister station told me a couple of weeks ago that she was going to shoot archery, and I was intrigued. I had shot once when I was a kid at Girl Scout camp a million years ago. So she set up a group class for a bunch of girls from work to learn how to shoot at Leo's Field Archery in West Falls this past Sunday. We had a fantastic time, and we are going again this Sunday!

We took pictures, and I took some video of our webstress Angela shooting arrows. She had the greatest surprised face almost every time she shot an arrow!

After lessons with Bryan Zeller, Sherri Metzger, Paul Calleri and Rich (sorry Rich, but I'm not even going to attempt to try and spell your last name!), we decided to have a 3-arrow shootout! Here are the results!

Yes, Liz from WYRK won, but to be fair, it was her second time shooting. Just saying!

If you would like to get more information about Leo's Field Archery, they offer both adult and child programs. And if you think archery is just for hunter, it's not. All the instructors we worked with are involved in competition archery, where you shoot at targets, not animals. Some of them do hunt, but not all of them!

The kids' program is Tuesday nights, and you can email leosjoad@aol.com to get more information. (That's when Liz took her first class, and she said the kids were better than she was!) If you would like to get more information about the adult archery program, you can call Bryan Zeller at 716-713-6534. (We just wanted to channel our inner Katniss!)

Thank you to Rich, Paul, Bryan and Sherri for taking the time (and having the patience) to show us how to shoot!
