Baseball fan Tonya Carpenter was in critical condition, and has been downgraded to serious condition, after being struck n the face with a broken baseball bat during a recent Boston Red Sox game. She is a 44-year-old mom who was enjoying an evening at Fenway Park with her 8-year-old son, Aidan, when she was struck.

The game had to be delayed as she was taken from Fenway Park to a local Boston hospital on a stretcher. Fortunately, Tonya's condition is improving.

Red Sox manager John Farrell said:

"All you can think about is a family, they come to a ballgame to hopefully get three hours of enjoyment, and unfortunately with how close our stands are to the field of action, an accident like this tonight is certainly disturbing."

Many fans are struck by foul balls each season, but this is the first time I've heard of a fan being struck by a bat.

Do you think parks need to increase safety with more netting?
