As we reported earlier this week, NFL ratings have been considerably low when compared to other seasons.  Among other reasons, sources site national anthem protests, poor match-ups, a lack of superstars playing due to injury/suspensions, and blowout games.

Enter: political season.

According to the Bleacher Report, Trump talk in the NFL locker rooms, including the Bills', is causing quite a rift among players.  One coach (NOT from the Bills) has gone as far as to ban Trump-talk.  Not politics in general, just specifically Trump talk.

There's quite a racial divide as well.  The source spoke to 43 players and found 20 of 22 African American players were voting Hillary.  But 21 of 21 white players were going with the Donald.  (It should be noted there are 1600 players in the NFL, so it's far from an accurate sample size).

In the Bills locker room, things got personal.  Speaking on condition of anonymity, some African American Bills players were pretty unhappy that Rex Ryan spoke at the Trump rally in Buffalo earlier this year.

One player said:

I see Trump as someone who is hostile to people of color, and the fact that Rex supports him made me look at him completely differently, and not in a positive way.

Apparently, at least one friendship between two NFC teammates has also ended over Trump, but they weren't named.

How about you?  Have you unfriended people in your social networks over political opinions?  Have you lost an IRL friendship over any of it?

In my opinion, de-friending people (whether online or IRL) defeats the purpose of a democracy...unless things get personal and nasty, in which case, you're just dealing with a mean person!  But we should be able to agree to disagree and enjoy the fact that we are have the freedom to have differing opinions, no?
