An attempted child abduction in Buffalo's west side was stopped, thanks to the watchful eyes of a parent.

Police received a call around 2:20 p.m. on Monday regarding an attempted abduction, and while police were quick to respond, they were unable to locate the vehicle of interest.

According to family members, 5-year-old Sherlianys Cegerra was waiting to cross the street when a blue van pulled up next to her and a black male tried to reach out and grab her. The girl's mother witnessed the attempt and started yelling for the person to stop.

Neighbors are warning parents and residents to watch out for the man and the blue van.
