As a Jamestown native, born and raised, I'm very aware of some of the negative connotations surrounding my dear hometown.  Someone said to me the other day -- hand to God -- "You're from Jamestown??? I didn't realize you were from METH CENTRAL."  That ain't cool, man.  JamesVegas has a lot more to offer than its recent drug spree.

Obviously our main claim to fame is being the birthplace of Lucille Ball (she was actually born in Celoron, NY....one of our hamlets).  So when something like this, that's supposed to commemorate her, but rather terrifies young children, is erected....there's a large lobbying to get it removed.

According to CNN.com,

The artist who created the statue did not respond to CNN's request for comment. In a post this week, the Facebook group founder said the point was not to "disparage" the artist or his work. But, in this case, "this Lucy statue is just not up to his usual work."

Schrecengost told the local Post-Journal that he reached out to the artist over the years about redoing statue.

"He finally came back and said he wanted $8,000 to $10,000 to do it. I've also reached out to several other sculptors in the region, and some said they would do it, but we're still looking at about $5,000," he told the newspaper.

The Today Show even got in on it this morning....
