Western New York ‘Swimming Holes’ Make Top 8 in New York
Here's something you don't see Western New York make headlines for: best swimming holes. In an article on Wide Open Spaces, two Western New York locations made a list of "8 of the best swimming holes in New York you can hike to."
Stony Brook State Park in Dansville (an hour and a half from Buffalo) made number one on the list! The article had this to say about the park:
"One of the few swimming options here that is considered semi-natural due to the high quality masonry repairs to the swimming area. It’s also one of the few here that offers a full-time lifeguard staff."
The other location close to Buffalo, within an hour to be exact, is Zoar Valley, which made number five on the list:
"Near the confluence of the Genesee River and Cattaraugus Creek in Cattaraugus County, the Zoar Valley Multiple Use Area offers hiking, paddling/swimming, fishing, and many other outdoor opportunities."
Of course the other locations aren't bad to check out for a short road trip and can be found here.
