In 2014, ex-members of the Buffalo Jills cheer-leading squad, filed a lawsuit against our Buffalo Bills alleging that the team and agents of the team were paying them less than minimum wage. The lawsuit also says that our Jills were required to make public appearances...for free! My co-worker Stephanie Mateczun, spoke with WIVB TV last year about the situation.

The Democrat & Chronicle reported last year about the potential legislation on this issue:

If passed, the provisions of the Cheerleaders' Fair Pay Act would take effect immediately and apply to all professional sports teams in New York. Anyone who "performs acrobatics, dance or gymnastic exercises in promotion of a professional sports franchise" would be considered a cheerleader and subject to employee protections.

One former Buffalo Jill tells us:

When I was there we only got paid for personal appearances we weren't affiliated with the NFL per say but when you become a Jill you know up front what to expect regarding money, personal appearances, weight, and uniform costs things may have changed after I was gone but couldn't have that much.

Stephanie Mateczun, the former Buffalo Jills manager, gave us an update on the situation. I just had to ask. What's it gonna take to get our Jills back onto the field?

So, come on fans, it's time to make some noise and get our Jills back onto the field and sidelines.
