The NHL has decided to cancel some regular season games for the 2012-13 season.

Last week, the NHL announced that all preseason games would be canceled.  The National Hockey League announced today (October 4) the cancellation of the 2012-13 regular season schedule through October 24.  A total of 82 regular season games were scheduled for October 11 through October 24.

The cancellation was necessary because of the absence of a Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NHL Players' Association and the NHL.

The lockout is the NHL's fourth shutdown since 1992,  including a year-long dispute that forced the cancellation of the entire 2004-05 season.
