Back pain can be everything from a minor ache to excruciating and life changing.  After my daughter was born in 1998,  My back began to deteriorate until one morning I woke up with unbelievable pain and stiffness on the left side of my body from my hip down to my foot.  I could barely move.  That day I began to learn how to cope with back pain.

My doctor initially prescribed painkillers and physical therapy.  I eventually went to a chiropractor and then a neurosurgeon who ordered an MRI and found I had two herniated discs.  The pain was disrupting my life so much, I agreed to surgery and it went well.  I was back to being a mom and living a normal life, until a car accident a few years later.  The pain was back, not quite as bad as before, but yet it was still uncomfortable.  I went through the whole round of specialists again ultimately finding that regular chiropractor visits plus my portable tens unit (shown here) and occasionally heat patches or ice are the best way for me to go.  Most days, I do pretty well.  My tens unit keeps me moving between chiropractor visits, when I'm feeling a bit edgy.  I prefer to take a more natural approach and try to stay away from the painkillers, hoping I'll stay healthier longer!  Of course, everybody should check with their own doctor for the best remedy for back pain for them.  Tell me though, how do you deal with back pain?
