According to WKBW.com, The Erie County Sheriff's Office bomb squad was called to a Tonawanda bank Thursday afternoon after a suspicious item was left inside following a robbery.

Schools in the area were put in lockdown and Delaware Avenue was closed after Tonawanda Police were called around 1 p.m. Officers say a man, who is described as white, in his 50s, with a scruffy beard, demanded cash from the tellers.

The man fled on foot but left a possible explosive device behind. While the bomb squad entered the bank, officers in heavy gear accompanied by K9s attempted to track the suspect.

Around two hours later, Delaware Avenue was re-opened and the lockdown was lifted at area schools.

Police did not comment further on the possible explosive device inside the bank.
