Unique WNY Fourth of July Recipes Using 5 Ingredients or Less!
The New York Times published a recipe for guacamole that included peas...and the internet firmly, and resoundingly, responded: NO.It may have even bridged our country's huge political chasm: President Obama tweeted his disdain, and Jeb Bush agreed too!
While I'd totally throw down a bucket of pea guac, here at the Morning Rush, we prefer things simple too.
One of my favorite recipes for Fourth of July (or any summertime party) is the watermelon/feta salad. It's got five ingredients, and every time I've made it, it's pretty well-received!
- 6 cups cubed watermelon
- 1 cup crumbled feta cheese
- ¼ cup thinly sliced red onion
- ¼ cup fresh lime juice
- 1 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
Toss it all in a bowl, and enjoy! If ya wanna get all fancy, add some torn mint! (But that brings you to six ingredients, obviously)
We asked for your last minute, less-than-five-ingredient recipes:
- Stacey from Tonawanda said she combines a box of angel food cake mix and a can of pineapple, bakes it for 30 minutes at 400, and tops it with whipped cream and berries. Dessert: done.
- Mike from Buffalo melts a package of white chocolate chips in the microwave (do it at 30 second increments, stirring in between, until melted), crushes up a package of Oreos and tosses with the melted chocolate, spreads on a sheet pan and chills in the fridge. Then break it apart with a butter knife and ya basically have Cookies'n'Cream Hershey's bar. In minutes.
